New Features in Sage MAS 500 version 7.0
Improved support for distribution and manufacturing companies
Sage MAS 500 7.0 builds upon the award-winning features of previous versions with enhancements specifically for small enterprise business owners in distribution and manufacturing.

 New Warehouse Management Module
The new warehouse management module enables distributors to dramatically increase productivity in their warehouse with advanced bin management tools, new wave and zone picking methods for businesses with larger warehouse operations, and more streamlined inventory transfers for extended supply chain operations.

Enhanced Bin, Serial and Lot Distribution
One of the most common obstacles facing distribution customers involves the assignment of serial and lot numbers. Sage MAS 500 7.0 enables users to manually or automatically define a range of serial or lot numbers for inventory transactions such as inventory picking, receiving and manufacturing materials. User-defined masking capabilities can be used to create meaningful naming conventions for lot and serial identification.

 Streamlined Sales Order
For faster data processing, sales order entry has been completely revamped, including support for extensive personalization of the order entry screen. In addition, new capabilities support will-call orders, streamlined picking and payment processing directly from the order entry screen.

Phantom BOM/Routing – Sage MAS 500 7.0 supports phantom bills of materials and routings to satisfy the varying needs of manufacturers. This industry-standard feature is supported throughout Sage MAS 500 7.0, including MRP, and facilitates the use of common bills of material for engineering and manufacturing.

Enhanced Decimal Precision – Manufacturers in growing industries, such as pharmaceutical and high technology, require a high level of decimal precision. Sage MAS 500 7.0 delivers up to eight decimal places for quantities and up to five decimal places for price and cost, giving manufacturers the benefits of improved inventory management and much more accurate costing.

Comprehensive business intelligence and analysis

With its new Business Insights Explorer (BIE) module, Sage MAS 500 7.0 introduces a new paradigm in ERP usability and work-flow improvement. The newest member of the Sage MAS 500 Business Insights suite, BIE takes inquiry, drill-down, drill-around and analysis to a new level. New and current users will immediately reap benefits from the extensive set of usability and customization features, which produce significant gains in real-time workflow efficiency and reporting capabilities. Business Insights Explorer includes the following core features:
  • Preview - With preview functionality, users are able to locate a specific entity or transaction in a spreadsheet style interface while viewing related entities and transactions in a secondary spreadsheet view. For example, the customers view includes the ability to preview open invoices, orders and projects in addition to the customer address, contact and balance information.

  • Manage - With the task management options provided by BIE, users have an easy mechanism for quickly accessing key Sage MAS 500 7.0 tasks for the entity being displayed. For example, when viewing a customer, the tasks for updating the customer information or creating an order are all readily accessible. When the Sage MAS 500 7.0 task is loaded, the appropriate context is passed from BIE, limiting extra keystrokes and improving productivity.

  • Analyze - With Business Insights Analyzer (BIA), users have the ability to organize, graph and format summarized information. Contextual mappings have been configured within BIE that enable users to jump directly to specific BIA views for detailed analysis such as sales history or project profitability.

  • Explore - With explore users can greatly enhance work-flow efficiency and customer satisfaction by quickly and easily accessing all pertinent and related data for an entity or transaction being viewed.

Web-Based Applications – Sage MAS 500 software demonstrates its commitment to Microsoft’s technologies by developing powerful Web modules, including eSalesforce, eCustomer and eExecutive. These applications provide your salespeople, customers and senior staff with the information and system access they require.

Powerful Performance - Sage MAS 500 was designed and built from the ground up for Microsoft platforms, and takes full advantage of the power offered by Microsoft SQL Server and the Windows operating system. Developed with Visual Basic and Visual C++, it’s object-oriented architecture is designed to facilitate complete integration with industry specific workflow, imaging, and office productivity applications.

True multi-tasking - Sage MAS 500 allows the opening of many forms during a session, and also allows many different processes to run simultaneously.

Sage MAS 500 Customization Tools – World-class customization tools provide a

foundation for Visual Basic and Microsoft SQL Server business application development—the same toolkit used to build the Sage MAS 500 product line. Designed to significantly reduce the cost of developing industry-specific VB/SQL business applications, these components allow you to improve system efficiency:

Customizer gives you the ability to easily modify screens and forms, even if you lack extensive program knowledge, to match your specific business processes, improve staff productivity, and achieve desired look and feel without making changes to the source code.

Application Framework lets you finish your development tasks faster and at a lower cost. It provides Visual Basic controls, wizards, and utilities to solve housekeeping issues, including concurrency, user interface, security models, data handling, and more—allowing your developers to be free to build add-on programs or interface controls, saving you development time and money.

Module Source Code, for code development and implementation, is available.

    Customization

Workflow integration - If your business processes require sharing accounting data or reports, third-party workflow products can be utilized to readily access Sage MAS 500 data.

Drill-downs and drill-arounds - Users can "drill-down" to track a transaction to its original source, or "drill-around" by using a right mouse-click to activate context-sensitive links between related screens of data in most Sage MAS 500 forms.

Navigator - Our powerful search engine makes finding data easy, whether you prefer to key in your search criteria manually, or use the mouse as a high-speed browsing tool.

Sage MAS 500 - An essential tool that allows manual or automatic generation of business letters, e-mail or spreadsheets using Sage MAS 500 data. In fact, any file can be attached to any entity residing in the data.

Database-enforced security - In the Maintain Users task one login can be created, and maintained, for SQL Server and Sage MAS 500 access. The security system in Sage MAS 500 is structured around Security Groups in which access can be defined by task - such as Maintain Accounts - with one of four permission levels: Excluded, Display Only, Normal or Supervisory.

User-definable fields - Sage MAS 500 software includes extensive user-definable fields throughout the system. Many of these can be configured to contain a preset range of values, which can greatly expand reporting and tracking capabilities.

Batch processing - All transactions are posted in batches, which can be put on hold, set as private to one user, and verified using control amounts.

Flexibility
Sage MAS 500 maximizes user flexibility and scalability, and allows straightforward integration with other applications. Many aspects of the system - including menus, lookup windows and reports - can be customized without programming. If you require increased functionality, you can add any custom features you may need using Visual Basic. The Sage MAS 500 open architecture can result in shorter development cycles and lower customization costs.

Customizable Reporting
Reporting is an area in which SageMAS 500 systems shine. Crystal Reports® is the embedded graphical report writer and accompanies the System Manager module. In addition, FRx Advanced for Windows, the premiere graphical financial report writer, is bundled with the General Ledger module. These report writers offer a selection of preconfigured reports which can be customized and modified, then saved so that they can be run at any time.

Reporting power
Every report in Sage MAS 500, including agings and registers, is written using Crystal Reports, the presentation quality report writer. The General Ledger Graphics chart pictured here presents Total Profits data in graph form; users can choose from a variety of similar graph formats or customize their own.

User-Friendly Help
Most of the documentation on Sage MAS 500 tasks and procedures is contained in online help, eliminating the need for multiple copies of software manuals. Form level help that describes the current task and options is available on each screen. Field level help is available for each field contained within a form. This help feature describes the field and includes information on values the field should contain. A right mouse click on any field will always reveal this What's This? help, along with any drill-down or drill-around capabilities.

Online help
Sage MAS 500 is an application rich in user-friendly online help. Every Sage MAS 500 form contains form level help and every field contains What's This? help functionality. Much of the help dialogue contains shortcuts that will automatically start the task on which you are inquiring. Following the step by step instructions can then allow you to easily complete that task once it is started.
